I learned so much in this unit. One of the first things we did was learn the proportions of the human body. I had no idea what length or width of anything should be, that the average human is about eight heads tall, or that the head was about five eyes wide. This made me realize that the majority of my previous drawings were probably not proportionate. After that we learned how to draw eyes, noses, mouths, and ears. When I drew eyes and lips in the past I had thought it was pretty easy (even if they weren't the greatest), and that noses were incredibly hard. But this lesson I kind of change my thinking: eyes and lips were harder and that noses were easier/more fun. One of the things I really wanted to learn how to draw was a nose, and I was finally able to do it successfully. Before we learned how to draw everything, we were told to draw a face, say what we wanted to learn, and what our challenges would be. For challenges I wrote, "Everything." The things I had wanted to learn most were eyes/eyelashes, ears, noses, and shading. I think I definitely improved in all the areas at least a little bit. I drew a self portrait was am pretty pleased with it. I worked so hard on it because I didn't want it to look gross. The drawing in person looks so much better than the photo of it, but it's still pretty decent. I wasn't much of a drawer before, and I don't know how much of one I will be in the future, but I definitely want to improve on how realistic everything looks. That takes a lot of practice so if I want to get there I'll have to put forth the effort, be patient, and just keep working for it.
