For my main project I decided to take part in making something for autism awareness. The month of April is National Autism Awareness Month and is used to bring consciousness, acceptance, and support. I never really thought about autism much before, even though I know people who have it and others who work with those who have it. This project, however, will hopefully help bring light and more awareness to those in my community, rather than them being unfamiliar, like me.
I made this piece by drawing a puzzle piece and drawing A LOT of hearts inside it. This took much longer that I had originally thought it would because I had to make all the hearts fit together like, well, a puzzle. After that I used red, blue, green, and yellow color pencils to color the hearts, and once I finished that I colored all the empty spaces with black sharpie. I finished the project by giving it a white border.
I think the most successful thing of my project is giving a message to those who see it and raising awareness. The purpose of this project was to help bring love and support to the autism community and I hope I did that through the hearts and puzzle piece.

The other piece I did was a flipbook. This was one of the most tedious projects I have ever worked on. I knew it would be from the beginning, but I wanted to make it anyways. The quote that inspired me was, "If you were born with the weakness to fall, you were born with the strength to rise." To show this, I drew a sun high in the sky, clouds rolling in for a thunderstorm, night falling, and a sunrise to show the start of a new day.
